Charterhouse invests in specialist alternative asset manager France Valley
April 24, 2023
Charterhouse Capital Partners LLP (“Charterhouse”), one of the longest-established private equity firms operating in Europe, today announces that it has entered into an agreement to invest in France Valley, a specialist alternative asset manager in Forestry and Real Assets with €4bn assets under management. Charterhouse is investing alongside France Valley’s founders, Guillaume Toussaint and Arnaud Filhol, and the entire management team, as part of an ambitious and collaborative partnership.
Founded in 2013 and based in France, France Valley offers two main investment solutions - investment funds in Natural Assets (forest and vineyards) and funds investing in SCPI real estate usufruct, a specialist structured real estate leasehold product - to a diversified investor base comprising institutional investors, individual investors via wealth management advisors, private banks and family offices. France Valley manages over 29,000 hectares of forest in France and Europe, as well as vineyards in Champagne. France Valley's real estate leasehold funds are structured and provide institutional investors with the right to collect highly diversified and recurring rent flows from real estate assets, without taking any risk on the value of the underlying real estate assets.
France Valley operates in a fast-growing market with high barriers to entry. Investor demand for ESG products continues to grow and the Company is well-positioned to take advantage of this structural and sustainable trend.
The partnership with Charterhouse will support France Valley in its ambition of becoming the European leader in Natural and Renewable assets, notably through geographic expansion, the launch of new diversified products in the growing ESG investment space and selective external growth operations.
Charterhouse has a strong track record of investing in the financial services sector and has a deep understanding of long-term growth trends in ESG. Previous investments include ERM, the largest global pure-play sustainability consultancy, SLR Consulting, a global leader in environmental and sustainability advisory, and Siaci Saint Honore, a leading global B2B insurance brokerage firm.
